Description

The High-Reaching, Underprivileged Students to Secure Assistance for Intellectual Needs (HUSSAIN) Scholarship Fund

This fund was created by Dr. Fahmida Hussain to honor her father Dr. Abdul Hossain and their medically inclined family. (The fund name is an acronym for her name, which she spells differently than her father’s.) From early childhood Dr. Hossain demonstrated a great thirst for knowledge. Over the years Dr. Hossain earned a Medical degree, a Masters of Philosophy, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Neurophysiology. He turned his passion for science and teaching into a career. He worked as a professor and principal (equivalent to a Deanship in the United States) for various Medical schools and assumed the position of Director of Medical Education (DME). He served as a World Health Organization (WHO) Delegate and finalized his career by retiring as a member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, considered to be one of the most prestigious positions of Bangladesh.

Dr. Hossain viewed college education as the building block for higher education and that it prepares individuals to make the final decision about their profession. This scholarship was established to encourage the hardworking-gifted college students, who want to contribute to society. As a result of Dr. Hossain’s roots and educational background, the fund will support students of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
