2017 Robert J. Hiler Memorial Scholarship

Robert J. Hiler was a successful businessman and beloved husband and father to his family. His family established a scholarship in his memory in 1993, shortly after his passing. The family has a strong passion for education beyond high school and continues to support those attending college.

Amount of Scholarship Award
Scholarships are available in a maximum of $2,500 per academic year, and are distributed on a semester basis - $1,250 per semester. Scholarship recipients that continue to meet the eligibility requirements, may renew each semester up to a maximum individual total of $10,000 while completing an undergraduate degree program.

Selection Process
A Selection Committee named by Unity Foundation of La Porte County will independently review all scholarship applications. Committee members sign confidentiality agreements, and all information from the applications is kept in the strictest of confidence. After the final selection is made, the recipients will be notified, and the awarded funds will be forwarded to the accredited institution designated by the individual recipients.


The applicant must
1) be a natural or legally adopted child of a Hiler Industries employee (employee must have worked for the Company for at least one (1) year prior to the scholarship application due date)
2) have been accepted to, or be enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing a undergraduate degree
3) be enrolled as a full-time (12 credit hour minimum)
4) be in good academic standing (not on academic probation)

Awards will be made without regard for age, gender, race, or ethnicity.

Disqualified Applicants
The following people are not eligible for scholarships administered by Unity Foundation of La Porte County: officers, directors, employees and members of a scholarship committee of Unity Foundation and their immediate families.
