Description

The BARBARA A. CARMEN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND was established to encourage elementary teacher empowerment through small grants. This fund is dedicated to the memory of Barbara A. Carmen, a former MCAS elementary teacher, who devoted her career to the pursuit of excellence in education. May the fruit of her dedication live on through the efforts of others.

Grant funding is available for:
Purchase of supplies or equipment for special programs of teachers or students.
Educational reference materials for teachers to strengthen classroom skills.
Educational materials designed to meet special classroom needs.
Guest speakers or outside programs for curriculum enhancement.
Ideas which might in any way enrich curriculum or enhance teacher’s ability to meet student needs.

Grant funding may not be used to pay district personnel.

How Much Money is Available?
Each grant applicant may request up to $400. There may be multiple recipients each year. Multiple teachers may collaborate using one application.

Award Timeline
Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 14, 2016
Awards will be announced by Friday, November 18, 2016
Funds will be available by Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Requirements

Who’s Eligible to Apply?
The Barbara A. Carmen Memorial Endowment Fund accepts applications from teachers in K-8 schools serving Michigan City. These schools include: Barker Middle School, Coolspring Elementary School, Edgewood Elementary School, Joy Elementary School, Knapp Elementary School, Krueger Middle School, Lake Hills STEM Magnet School, Marsh Elementary School, Notre Dame Catholic School, Pine Magnet School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Queen of All Saints Catholic School, Springfield Elementary School, St. Paul Lutheran School, and St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic School.

Project Report
Project must be completed by the conclusion of the 2016-2017 academic year. Recipients are required to submit a report detailing project implementation and outcomes by Friday, June 9, 2017.
