2017 Rowdy and Lucky Shain Scholarship Application

Deadline: February 01 2017 at 11:59 PM CST (Midnight)

Description

Foundation Trustee Melanie Maxwell Shain, Chi Delta/Millsaps College, and husband John, established the endowment to honor the immense effect the two cats had on the Shain family. Rowdy and Lucky were homeless. Rowdy was rescued from a high-kill shelter and Lucky was an emaciated stray. Rowdy became known as the “peeping Tom” in the neighborhood because he climbed trees to peer into windows. Lucky loved the neighborhood children and escorted them to the bus stop in the morning and waited for them in the afternoon. He became the topic of many school essays.

The goal of the scholarship is to assist the growing core of caring Chi Omegas who are in a position to make positive changes in the humane treatment of animals.

The Rowdy and Lucky Shain Scholarship is available to Chi Omega collegians in their junior or senior year and alumnae pursuing degree programs in animal welfare or veterinary medicine.

Two recipients will each receive a $1500 award and must be used during the 2017/2018 academic year. Scholarship checks are written directly to the university to be used for educational expenses and tuition.

APPLICANTS WILL BE INFORMED OF THEIR STATUS VIA EMAIL IN MAY.
