The SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing (DCS) Rising Researcher program is designed to recognize early career professionals who are conducting outstanding work in product development or research in the defense, commercial and scientific sensing, imaging, optics, or related fields.
The intent is to provide personal recognition, offer further professional growth and networking opportunities, make it easy to participate in the SPIE DCS 2018 technical program, and create possibilities for future SPIE DCS program/topic involvement or leadership roles.
The key criterion in evaluating and ranking applications is the researcher's potential long-term contribution to sensing, imaging, optics, photonics, and related fields. Applications are judged based on the contribution of the researcher to the scientific, educational, or economic impact of optics and photonics. Merit will be judged relative to other applicants with similar professional backgrounds.
Researchers located anywhere in the world and who have graduated in the last 10 years are eligible to apply. Students - those who have not yet completed their terminal degree - are not eligible to apply for this award package and recognition.
Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply.
Women, minorities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
Selected 2018 Rising Researchers will receive:
• 1 SPIE DCS Fee Waiver (with Proceedings)
• 1-year SPIE Early Career Professional membership
• 1 fee waiver for a half-day course at SPIE DCS
• Paper identified as a Rising Researcher in the conference program
• Special invitation to networking opportunities at the SPIE DCS event
• Acknowledgement in the SPIE DCS Final Program and may be featured in other SPIE materials, such as SPIE Professional Magazine
All applicants will be notified of the results of their application via email by early November.
Please contact EarlyCareer@spie.org if you have questions or experience technical problems with the online application process.
