Honoring a past National President, this financially need based scholarship is available for members currently enrolled in their junior year of college or for those returning as a fifth year seniors during the upcoming academic year.

Elizabeth Carmichael Orman dedicated her life to the education process. Her professional career included positions at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Oklahoma State University, The Ohio State University, and the University of Alabama. Her devotion to the principles and ideals of Chi Omega was a lifetime commitment that enabled her to serve the Fraternity as an advisor, National Secretary, National Alumnae Officer, and National President.

This scholarship honors Elizabeth Carmichael Orman for her devotion to education and to our Fraternity.

Selected by a committee appointed by the Chi Omega Foundation, scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of scholarship; financial need; contributions and service to Chi Omega, the university and the community: and professional and personal goals.



Applicants must be members of Chi Omega Fraternity who are enrolled in their junior year and demonstrate the need for financial assistance in order to complete their senior year.

A completed application must contain the following information:

1. A completed application form.

2. A personal essay.

3. Applicant financial statement and institution financial statement.

4. A current transcript of all college or university work. This CAN be an unofficial transcript. If verification of an official transcript is needed, applicants will be notified and given ample time for submission.

5. Three letters of recommendation:

a. one letter from an Advisor or the Advisory Board of the applicant’s active chapter
b. one letter from a professor in the applicant's major field of study
c. and one letter of recommendation from a professor who knows you well.

Applicants must assume the following responsibilities:

1. Give recommenders ample time to submit letters.
2. Follow up with recommenders to ensure they understand the process for a successful submission.
3. Follow application directions as points will be deducted for not following directions.
4. Submit a complete application.

Please note the following:

An application is considered incomplete without ALL required materials having been submitted online. Further, applications lacking recommendation letters will be shown as “pending” completion; however, pending and incomplete applications will not be considered by the selection committee.

Applicants who are awarded the Elizabeth Carmichael Orman Scholarship will be eligible for the Mary Love Collins Scholarship and/or the Alumnae Educational Grant in the future.

Scholarship checks are made payable to the institution to be used for educational expenses/tuition.
