2018: Clement T. Hanson Memorial Scholarship

Clement T. Hanson (1901-1985) founded the Clem T. Hanson Advertising Agency in Moline, Illinois and was a co-founder of HON Industries of Muscatine.

He also served his community in many capacities as a volunteer, including service to Boy Scouts of America, Arrowhead Ranch, United Way, Moline Rotary (as president in 1952), and other civic organizations.

Clement T. Hanson was the 1920 valedictorian and graduate of St. Mary's High School, Riverside, Iowa.

He received a scholarship which allowed him to attend the University of Iowa, from which he graduated in 1925.

Mr. Hanson was widely respected for his exemplary business ethics. He was also a visionary executive in the area of human rights and participative management in corporate life.

The Clement T. Hanson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in December of 1985 by his family, following the death of Mr. Hanson on July 17 of that year. The funds are invested by the Moline Foundation. The scholarships are also administered through the Moline Foundation which is a community foundation founded in 1953 to further the growth and development of citizens living in the Quad Cities region in Iowa and Illinois.


-Candidates must be graduating high school seniors, or community college students preparing to transfer to four-year colleges.
-Candidates must reside within Moline, Illinois School District 40 (geographic boundaries for Moline-Coal Valley Public Schools).
-Candidates must intend to pursue a bachelors degree on a full-time basis,
-Candidates must demonstrate financial need, presented through the scholarship application, a personal interview, and information confirmed by the financial aid office of the selected college (available at time of interview).
-Candidates must have achieved high school scholastic performance in the upper one-third of their class, or community college grade point performance of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.
-Submit transcript and an essay about yourself. (Maximum 200 words).
-The finalist candidate's potential for future personal achievement will be evaluated by the selection committee, as determined by a personal interview and two letters of reference received as part of the application requirement.
-Each scholarship award will be $1,500 for the academic year.
-Scholarship recipients will be eligible for renewal in three subsequent years, based on continued financial need and scholastic achievement acceptable to the Scholarship Selection Committee.
-Scholarship funds will be distributed through the school financial aid office. Distribution will be one-half at the beginning of the school year and one-half at the beginning
of the second semester.
-Scholarship funds may be applied to any component of the school's comprehensive fee, at the discretion of the financial aid office.
-Only completed applications will be considered.
